Case Study: Dan Satterberg for King County Prosecutor

The unexpected death of longtime King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng left a huge void in the local legal community. To fill the vacancy, Dan Satterberg, Maleng’s chief of staff for 17 years, was appointed interim prosecutor and ran for the office in a special election.
In a largely Democratic county, Satterberg worked hard to gain support from both Democrats and Republicans. This effort was critical to his grassroots and fundraising strategies. The team at FPN worked with Satterberg to establish a finance committee that demonstrated his bi-partisan support, coordinated fundraising events, managed direct mail and internet fundraising programs, and kept the candidate engaged and active with structured call time and in-person meetings.
The result was a campaign that raised over $500,000 in less than four months – more than double his opponent – and allowed Satterberg to air television ads, ultimately leading to a victory in the November 2007 election.
